Well, the ones here, anyway. Hmm...
Today I did attempt to leave the hotel properly and go exploring in Thiers and hopefully find the school.
Naaaah, sadly not gonna happen. I am in one of those places where a bus comes at some stupid hour in the morning and doesn't come back until the evening and if you miss either of them, you're screwed. Yaaay! So I'm currently having a nutritious lunch of pears and babybels back in my hotel room. Don't ever bother living in France if you're vegetarian, it's just not worth the malnourishment yet inevitable weight-gain from the many types of bread and cheese that are on offer to you!
Contrary to what I've always been told, French people DO NOT like people who don't speak French. They don't 'appreciate the effort' if you try to speak to them in French. They tend to get quite pissed off (how much maybe depends on the sort of day they've been having?) because they can't understand you (me, my accent's currently shockingly bad) and they make this all painfully clear.
Don't get me wrong, some people here have been friendly like the taxi drivers and some girl who came into my room this morning to ask when I was leaving - very encouraging!
The English teacher who is in charge of the assistants each year hasn't replied to my last 2 emails so I'm getting quite worried about that now, too! Sod trying to get a bus, I plan to rock up at the school in a taxi (I think I know which direction it's in now) tomorrow morning at 9 like she suggested a while back and see what's occuring.
Quite confused, cannot WAIT to get out of this area and get to actual Thiers to start work and hopefully move into Lycée accomodation asap.
Haven't even been here for 24 hours but I am missing everyone stupidly already. London FTW.
